So a couple months ago we found out the baby on the way is going to be another girl, yeah! Only problem? I used my 2 favorite names on Caroline Olivia.... and we had a perfect boy name picked out (left over from when we were naming olivia--Asher Fernando (middle name is my husband's grandpa). Now we are just fighting back and forth about a name for this new baby girl (who will be here in 3 months!!! ahhh!)
I need your help, or well I would just love your opinions:) Even if you are someone who NEVER comments, please do!!!
Here is a list of names that I liked, and ones Franc likes (beware), can you leave a comment with your favorite?

parker
NAMES FRANCISCO LIKES:

Francisca (close second---eek!)
Fernanda
Dorothea

Hermione (no joke)
and a whole lot of others that I have blocked out of my memory.

LOVE bridget! and madeline
Bridget and Juliet.
Hey Katie, It was so great to see you Saturday night! OK, here's my two cents - I love the name Madeline, but it's kind of a "big hit" right now, so she might end up being the 12th Maddy in her class. Amelie is gorgeous! And I love the idea of naming her Viviette/Vivienne and calling her Vivi. I went to school with a girl named Marin, and she was always so classy and put together, kind of like how I think of Marin County, CA (pronounced differently, but still). From Francisco's list, the only name that pops out is Thea. Thea Kortman sounds like a really exotic, beautiful (and whip smart) chica. But you could also maybe go with Tea (pronounced Tay-ah). Let me know if you want me to slip him any other ideas in class sometime? It will be very subliminal... Good luck! I can't wait to meet her!
You did pick a great name ;) I love Amelie and Madeline .. both are sweet and solid names. XO!!!
It's funny how you're names are so french and Franc's are so latin!
I really like Bridget but I have to admit I like Thea a lot as well!
Colette sounds so stylin' loove it, and big no-no for Francisca or Fernanda...(all the Franciscas that I know are old..:)
I think he gets to choose this one. You chose Caroline Olivia, and now it's his turn. No matter what her name is, she'll be another great girl.
we actually both chose Caroline Olivia's name... we both loved those names, we only disagreed about the order of the 2 names.
thanks everyone for your input so far!
I love Juliet and Amelie. I also like Gabriella. Good picks though all around!!
love the Bridget, Madeline, and Gabriella.
I love girl names...I have a whole line up of them prepared. It's the boy names I'll have to think of more if we have another.
As the mom of three kids, my husband and I always had the hardest time agreeing on baby names...but I love a good name, so I am always throwing them around, even when I don't have a chance to use them! Your husband seems to have a strong urge to go with names ending in "a". I see Juliet on your list...ever thought of a compromise and going with Julia? It's a classic name and goes well with Caroline. I really like Francesca. A baby girl named Frankie is bound to be a strong soul. Are you open to other ideas, or are you sticking to the lists that you have for both of you? Good luck! Rachel
From your list I like Marin (was on my list too) and Collette. I like Thea from your hubby's list. We have two Madeline's on our street and two more at work. Beautiful name. Everyone thinks so. :) She will be awesome no matter what you name her!
P.S. I also like Georgia as an homage since you're moving away.
Ummm.... Hello? Collette? No brainer. For real. And I love, love, love the name Marin. I don't know why, but I always have! Good luck :) Hopefully you wont be welcoming Fransisca into the world ;)
Vivian Gabriella? I really like Amelie, as well.
I like Bridget..sounds good with your last name and "bridge" is a cute nik name too (if you are nik name kinda ppl) I have to like the nik name just as much or we 86 it.
I like Amelie too.. I can see you having a daughter name Amelie.
Ive always loved Marin..and a spin off of that I like is Meric.
Good luck with that..I get the butting heads buiness. We had names like Freya on our short list...
I like Juliet, Viviette, and Parker
Never would have liked Vivian, but after seeing Kendra's comment, I love that combo:: Vivian Gabriella Kortman. Sounds feminine, sophisticated and all the other girls in school won't have the same name.
Whichever name you choose will fit her well, but I hope Collete doesn't win. ;) Cannot believe she will be here in just 3 months.
I like them all... well except maybe Hermoine... and Dorothea.. and.. well anyway...
I like the name Georgia to go with Caroline.
Think about your Christmas cards...
Love,
Caroline and Georgia
A.dor.a.ble!
Love, love, love Collette!!!
Love Amelie and Georgia. Also kind of loving your husband's Dorothea idea. Only, I would just go with Dorothy, but that's me.
My sisters name is Brigitte so I'm partial to that name. :)
i like bridget best. thats my vote :)
names are so hard.
it seems like no matter who you talk to about baby names they always have an opinion...whether it be good or bad.
i love discussing the different possibilities with my husband, but when it actually comes down to it, its so hard to really buckle down and choose one.
good luck!
The only thing that I can add is that I'm not sure how some of these should be pronounced. I wish we had thought of that when we picked out a name. I never realized the one we chose was a hard one to understand until we started introducing the baby to people, and we got all these different "did you say......" back. Good luck! Baby names are hard!
I like Gabriella
How about Bridget Gabriella?
love parker! so cute. While im sure Franc has the best intensions, they are way latin.
hi KK!!! i like Madeline and parker!!! but also thea is a good one too!!...i miss you!! and cant wait to see pictures of the new baby!!
someday you'll have to have an Asher Fernando (so pretty) but i do love the name Madeline -- it's my momma and little sis' name so of course i'm partial :)
gabriella is so pretty!
When my husband and I also had a hard time coming to agreement about a name for our daughter. What finally worked was having each of us write down 3 names on a sheet of paper and then show them to each other. If nothing matched on our lists, those names were thrown out and we had to come up with three more. Besides my husband cheating and trying to sneak the same name in there several times, it really worked. We finally agreed on Olivia Nicole. (Nicole was after a dear friend of ours...)
I know a girl named Asha... I'm glad we had a boy because my husband and I had the same problem. It was so annoying, every name I liked he would come up with a stupid nickname.
I think Thea is lovely. My brother (aus) and his wife (mex) called their girl Alfonsina, it was such a mouthful at first but now we love it, and their second Valentina, which I think is all sorts of lovely. I also love Charlotte. Good luck!
I am really partial to gabriella, my 4 years old name is Lucianna Gabriela.
i feel like some of the names with the "a" at the end become a tongue twister with Olivia. I guess because they are too similar. Will you call this baby by the first or second name?
OK so I read it earlier and didn't comment, but I can't get the name Amelie out of my head. Love it :)That's my pick
Love Bridget, Juliet, and Gabriella, but I think any name you give a child just kind of sticks and works for them. Good luck deciding!
I love Bridget and Collette. I really like Thea too! Anything you name your baby will be cute though. You guys make such cute babies! :)
Out of your names: Amelie...out of Francisco's names: Thea
Gabriella Juliet. OR Gabriella Collette. So he gets to pick and you get a cute frenchie name.
Oh, and on top of my FB post. Some of my husband's names for our boys were STRIKER and TITUS. NO JOKE!
Wow. I'm lucky my hubby and I agree for the most part... :)
My top picks are Madeline, Amelie, and Viviette. They are fabulous.
Ooooh, we are having a girl too and we are having the same discussions... Name giving ain't easy!
Anyways, we are Dutch. Thea is a terrible name in the Dutch language (or at least I think so). I really love the name Kate (I know that's not an option in your case), but my hubbie thinks it's to English. My first choice is Gabrielle (Gaby for short) and my second choice is Isa. Mr Dull is growing to love both names... But back to you: your last name sounds Dutch, so I would definetely not go with Thea. I love Marin, and Georgia is pretty cute too!
AMELIE, would be my pick
Love love love love Thea.
SOB! My hubby refuses though, because he is Swedish and they can't really say the TH sound.
I agree that although beautiful, Madeline will become the 10th Maddie in her class.
Parker might be thought of as a boy.
I like the thought of a little Vivi running around, but some ppl might think Oliva and Viviette is a mouthful.
Marin, Amelie and Bridget all sound exotic.
I like the Julia version of Juliet better.
Georgia is not my style, but I never could swallow the name George.
Off of your husbands list, I like Thea and Gabriella.
The other ones sound very foreign, so it is hard to say them with a "picture" behind it if you know what I mean.
My friend has an Olivia, a Silvia and an Elinora/Eleanora.
My personal favorite names are Louisa (my daughter:) and Nellie. Just thought I would throw them in there.
Names are way too fun for me, as you can tell!
http://mishmashandmore.blogspot.com/
All on your list are sweet! I have a Madelyn Grace so I'm partial to Madeline. :) I love Parker for a girl! I also think Marin is pretty. Happy Naming!!
Love Madeline and Georgia!
you both have picked some beautiful names...how about one of yours and one of his for the first and middle names?
Why don't you just name her Caroline Olivia....it's a win win.
I don't like to comment on people's names because then they always pick the ones I don't like, and then I feel bad for ever saying anything since it's not my kid anyway..haha. We have the worst time with names, and I still think I shouldn't done something different in the ways of spelling and not naming them after my husband, but it's too late now, and hopefully they won't give me a hard time about it later. Maybe you will have another great name come to your mind when she is born....hehe.
With that said...the more I hear thea..I just think that is so unique and cute. I would stay away from Vivienne since it's like Olivia and Vivia or something. I'll stop now. Good luck. Whatever you name her...it will be perfect! Can't wait to see how much she looks like Olivia ;)
Did a search on your favorite (at www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/bridget) and found this:
Bridget ... Saint Bridget of Sweden (14th century) was a noblewoman who founded an order of nuns, the Bridgettines ... actresses Bridie Bardot, Bridie Nielsen, Bridget Fonda ... model Bridget Hall. [72]
Bedelia ... Variant of Bridget (Gaelic) "exalted one" by way of Biddy. Literary ... [3]
Biddy ... Pet form of Bride or Bridget (Gaelic) "exalted one" ... [2]
Birgit ... Variant of Bridget ... [10]
Breda ... See Bride and Bridget. [2]
Bree ... a variant of Brighid (see Bridget) ... [2]
Bride ... the modern Gaelic contracted form of Brighid (see Bridget) ... [2]
Brigitte ... Variant of Bridget ... [1]
Brites ... Also variant of Bridget.
Britt ... the Swedish form of the Gaelic name Bridget .
I "decided" on my daughter's name (Janina) easily: it was the name of my childhood's best friend. My friends ancestors (on her mother's side) were from Lebanon, which was a French colony. The island of Janine (a fictional island) is mentioned in the book "The Count of Monte Cristo" by frenchman Alexander Dumas.
Now that I did the search (at vwww.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Janina), found out the name is a variant of Gianina (Italian, Hebrew), Jan (Hebrew), Jane (Hebrew) and Janine (English), and the meaning of Janina is "God is gracious". The baby name Janina sounds like Jannina, Jenina, Jeanina and Jonina. Other similar baby names are Hanina, Janika, Janna, Janica, Jania, Jaina, Jamina, Janita and Vanina.
Bottom line...it's my opinion a name has to tell a story (on behalf of the childs self-esteem) as she develops her own personality (and later matures into old age).
A very important decision to take on her behalf. Best wiches!
my top two picks are:
collette and marin
Here's what I think!
bridget (My hubby's number one fav girls name, we almost named Hailey this)
collette (Also love and almost used. Love that Mer used it and calls her girl coco)
madeline (Love)
amelie (Love)
georgia (Double love)
NAMES FRANCISCO LIKES:
Gabriella (Have a niece with this name and they call her Ella, probably the only one on his list I'd go for)
I have a hunch her name will come from your list! :)
Obviously I'm partial to Colette as that is my baby's name (we spelled it with one L). However, from your list I love Bridget, Juliet, and Georgia. All the names you have picked are beautiful and classic. I know you'll pick the perfect one!
Fernanda --- LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it...and it's unique.
ps: Not sure if Gabrielle would be a possible variation for Gabriella? That one and Thea would be my picks from Franc's list. :)
pps: I just went to a Dorothea Lange exhibit today and while it isn't my favorite name on your lists, if you did end up going with Dorothea, your daughter would have an amazing photographer as her namesake!
(ok, I'll stop commenting now! Good luck!)
parker is a lovely name, but with your last name it sounds like you're stuttering or something. bridget is my top pick from you list, but thea is GORGEOUS. like, i can't stop thinking about it i love it so much.
Ooo00OOooo... so many pretty names!
Definitely my top 2 faves are Marin and Thea. I think they work OK together.
I also really like the name "Jae" for a girl, but it might be better suited to a middle name??
LOL this post made me laugh.. I can see this happening with me and my husband when we eventually have kids. He already has told me he likes the name 'Zelda' for a girl. Yeah...
Anyway, my favorites are Collette from your list and Thea from his. Hope this helps :o)
juliet is one of my favorites.
Katie Jean, you crack me up! I love ALL of your names. I can tell you from being a preschool teacher that some names have negative connotations, but none of yours do! Love them all!
I like Colette, it goes well with Olivia. But, I really like Thea too!
Ooh! I think both of you picked out some really pretty ones! My favorites (in no particular order): Colette (Coco for short -- like Meredith's little girl), Georgia, Gabriella, Francisca (you could call her Frankie for short. So cute!),Dorothea (Dottie for short). I've always loved Latin names, but since Kirk and I don't have an ounce of Latin blood in us (that we know of) it didn't seem to fit. (Instead we decided to go with all Scandinavian names. Our last name is Jorgensen, and we have viking blood, so it fits.) Anyways, these are all great choices, so I know she'll end up with a beautiful one.
Definitely Bridget. Please don't let hermione win..... Yipes
oh katie i feel so bad for you! i know how you feel though. i have had my hopes up for several homes and they have fallen through. it's the worst!
How about Marin Gabriella!?
Or, you could quiet the voices and ask her her name,...she'll tell you :-)...love your blog and many blessings!
Amelie... Love it. Still has that French feel but your girl will not have the same name like five hundred other Madelines in her class. I recommend picking nice feminine name. Parker sounds a little too masculine. And Fernanda.. perfect name for a lumber jack frau. Okay, if you can't decide. Just name her Lucie :)
I actually really love Gabriella!!!.... We have 2 girls and our 2nd daughters name is Gabriella Sofia.....so I'm a little bias!!
I'd say Go Gabby!
ps. Frankie is a friend from college, and my husband knew him from ATL....just so you don't think I'm some random person stalking you! :)
How about Gabriella Bridgette? Not sure of the spelling but I mean it to be Bridge-heat.
TOO many names to pick from!! But you already know my opinion :)
Oh and after watching that movie, I really like Amelie.
I too am going through names (for both sexes b/c it's a surprise). I thought I'd throw out one on our list because it's very close to one of yours. We like the name Cosette. It's from Les Miserables, and I love it.
Collete, bridget? Are we in an 80's movie with rich girls--just kidding. I love the name Thea though and Amelie. xoxxo
Parker is way cute for a girl. Love Marin, it makes me think of the sea.
I just love Georgia! Plus it seems to fit the requirement that everything your husband likes seems to end in "a" :)
Good luck!
I like Bridget, Collette, Juliet, and Georgia. I would use Amelia or Vivienne rather than Amelie and Viviette. From your hubby's list I like Thea and I would use Francesca, but not Francisca and Frankie is a cute nickname. My girls are named Georgia and Lila. I also like Gia and Cora!
I realize this is way past when you asked, but just found your blog and it's too fun not to respond. My vote is actually Fernanda - then he can have all those nice Italian syllables & you can call her Fern or Andi.
